Dave started brewing beer in college. Being an hour from Burlington, VT gave him a chance to sample some of the countries best micro-brews.  Soon after he was hooked on brewing and aspired to become a professional brewer.

Originally a native of New York, a twist of fate brought Dave to Boulder County.  While travelling to the West Coast a van repair landed him in Boulder for a week. While staying with local band Running With Sally he managed to land an asst. brewer position at the Mtn. Sun Pub and Brewery. Maybe it was just meant to be?

Dave spent a year under the award-winning brewer Michael Altman at Mtn. Sun, learning the ropes of commercial brewing and the unique style Mtn. Sun is famous for.  In November of 2000 he joined the Pumphouse Brewery and Restaurant as Head Brewer. Now working with another award-winning brewer Craig Taylor, Dave has tried to bring a little of his experience and creativity into the Pumphouse.

The Pumphouse today still offers their famous, classic craft brews featured on their Year ‘Round taps.  The Seasonal selection can reflect more on Dave’s touch with the use of fresh fruit, spices and anything he can get his hands on.

“I try to introduce our patrons to styles not found normally on the shelf at your local beer outlet.  Also I like to push certain styles or blend them to create a very unique beer that peaks peoples interest, while not compromising drink-ability” says Dave.  “I feel it is important that we rotate our Seasonal selection to keep things ‘new’ and exciting.  Expect to see at least four varieties of fruit infused Wildfire Wheat, Vanilla and Coffee Porter and 3-4 Nitro beers constantly rotating on our taps.”
