Summertime Organic Saison 2009
Organic Belgian-Style Saison
Our organic beer for this summer is a Belgian-Style Saison that originates from the agricultural region in southern Belgium. Historically brewed by farmers in the spring to enjoy after a hard day of work. These “Farmhouse Ales” are made mostly of malted barley and also included things that the farmers grew for themselves: rye, oats, wheat, spelt, etc. Like most Belgian influenced beer the style is defined very loosely. Saisons are typically unfiltered, straw yellow in color with light body and medium bitterness. Spices are optional but used often and modern Saisons have been brewed with fruit.
Our version is made with a Saison yeast strain that comes from the Dupont brewery, the largest producer of Saison in the world. We fermented this ale at high temperatures (90 deg F) to produce complex spice-like flavors and aromas without adding spices. Overall this unfiltered ale is light in body, with moderate hop bitterness and an exotic bubblegum-spice aroma that is what makes Saison unique.
